Note From Rod: I'm always amazed when people start walking out of the reality of being a victim and into the new reality of freedom. It is a beautiful thing to watch. I've often reflected on the story of Lazarus in the Bible because in it Jesus brings Lazarus back to life after he has been in the grave for a few days. After he does that, Jesus asks the friends and family to loosen the grave clothes or bindings that inhibit Lazarus' movements. That slow removal of the reminders of death is such a beautiful picture of ommunity's role in walking together. It makes me think of those films about monkeys picking nits out of each other's hair. Anyway, I love the picture. But I think God doesn't just call us to be free, he calls us to walk in freedom. To serve in freedom. To participate in setting others free. And when we begin to do that the enemy strikes back. The enemy reminds us of our past. It is always tempting to believe the lies. It is always a choice to remember the truth. Galatians 5:1 says, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."
