Subject: Lamentations and the faith of a child

Last night I got to hang out with the older kids. We got to talk about the book of Lamentations which is one of the saddest books of the bible. Having no prep time we just jumped in, talked about the background a little and I read some of the verses. We talked about what it meant to lament, to cry out, we talked about sadness and how life can hurt sometimes. Then we came to the best verse in the book in Chapter 3 22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” We spoke about how important it was to remember to praise God even in times of trouble. These awesome kids reminded me what it meant to have real faith. I shared with them that sometimes things can happen in life that can make you feel like that God has fallen off his throne or that he has abandoned you. When I asked them if this ever happened to them they said no, they realized that sometimes things happen and that God has control over all of it. I wish I had that kind of faith I really do. I never have and I sometimes worry I never will. I feel somewhat predisposed to feeling alone especially when times are rough. I guess that's my burden to carry through life though I wish it wasn't so.
